Don Ramón : La Perla
Upon meeting Don Ramon, I discovered that two-thirds of his residence had been destroyed by the hurricane. With no roof and several walls blown down, he had to take shelter in a concrete shed on his property. Over time, a bond developed between us, leading to frequent visits on my part.
Recognizing the dire state of his living conditions, I lent a helping hand in attaching a tarp to his damaged roof and assisting with physical tasks, due to his age, could no longer manage. Don Ramon, a devout man with a strong faith, adorned his home with numerous crucifixes and religious imagery. Among them was an old plaster crucifix that had suffered significant damage.
After multiple conversations about my artistic journey and the potential discarding of his damaged personal belongings, Don Ramon graciously offered me the damaged plaster crucifix, embodying his generosity and deep-rooted spirituality.
