Dón Pepe : Palomas, Comerio
I caught the attention of Don Pepe while sorting through the communal trash dumpster filled with numerous discarded personal items. In the dumpster, I collected a few items which included a broken handmade cuatro guitar. Curious about my activities, I explained to Don Pepe that I was an artist aiming to utilize the community's discarded items to narrate their collective story.
Intrigued by my concept, Don Pepe expressed interest. He shared that the cuatro guitar I found was made by one of the residents, whom was known for his handmade cuatros. Don Pepe told me not to leave, that he was getting something for me to take. Returning shortly, he presented me with this print on wood depicting La Perla, a gift given to him by Pedro Albizu Campos during his childhood.
